Skill Builders and Credentials for Your Home Education Journey
GenUS partners with schools, districts, organizations, and homeschool settings to deliver a competency-to-credential model where learners build skills, demonstrate learning through evidence, and earn recognized credentials.
In partnership with the Maine Home Education Alliance (MHEA), GenUS is offering access to Skill Builders and the Skill Builder Leader Credential Pathway for home educators — aligned with the same model used across schools and districts.
Whether you are just getting started or building on an established approach, this opportunity provides structured, competency-based resources that support skill development, reflection, and meaningful recognition of learning — without requiring you to change how you guide learning.

What are Skill Builders?
Skill Builders are short, focused lessons that give middle and high school learners the opportunity to practice foundational skills such as accountability, budgeting, and digital safety. Each Skill Builder is designed to make learning feel meaningful and connected to real life.
Simple, scripted, and flexible, Skill Builders can be completed individually, in small groups, or as part of a larger learning experience. Each includes detailed facilitation guides, strategies for diverse learners, and varying levels of tech interactivity. Learners reflect on their experiences to build confidence and develop the language to talk about their skills.
Skill Builders provide a ready-to-use way to bring competency-based learning into a variety of learning environments. With clear guidance and built-in structure, they support personalized learning, deeper engagement, and meaningful skill development without requiring a full curriculum redesign.
Skill Builders make it easy for learners to grow and for those guiding learning to do so with confidence.

Skill Builder Leader Credential Pathway
The Skill Builder Leader Credential is a professional learning pathway designed to prepare individuals to lead high-quality Skill Builder implementation with clarity, confidence, and integrity. Through a series of focused micro-credentials, awarded as digital badges with metadata, you will build the knowledge and skills needed to guide learning, strengthen practice, and ensure Skill Builders are implemented and awarded with consistency and credibility.
This credential recognizes those who can build shared understanding, guide others effectively, and uphold the quality and integrity of Skill Builder implementation.
Earning the Credential
To earn the Skill Builder Leader Credential, you will complete all required Evidence of Learning for each micro-credential. All micro-credentials in this pathway are included in the program cost, and submissions are assessed using clear rubrics and opportunities to revise until mastery is demonstrated.
The full pathway takes approximately five hours to complete, depending on your pace.
Upon completion, you will earn the Skill Builder Leader Credential, a verified digital badge with embedded metadata delivered and validated by GenUS.
