Skill Builders
Middle school students start with Skill Builders, short, focused lessons that help them practice foundational skills like accountability, budgeting, and digital safety. Simple and flexible, they connect learning to everyday life while giving schools a ready-to-use way to engage students.
Micro-credentials
GenUS is leading the way in bringing Micro-credentials to high school students, giving them a powerful way to show what they know and can do by demonstrating skill mastery. To earn a Micro-credential, students submit Evidence of Learning that is reviewed against clear rubrics, and successful demonstrations are awarded as digital badges with embedded metadata, making skills visible, portable, and recognized by colleges and employers. Aligned with learning standards, Maine’s Economic Strategic Development Plan, and national frameworks, Micro-credentials form the building blocks that stack into larger Credentials of Value within the GenUS Competency to Credential Model.
Skill Builders
Skill Builders are short, focused lessons that give middle school students the opportunity to practice foundational skills such as accountability, budgeting, and digital safety. Each Skill Builder is designed to make learning feel meaningful and connected to students’ lives.
Simple, scripted, and flexible, Skill Builders can be completed individually, in small groups, or as a whole class. Each includes detailed facilitation guides, strategies for diverse learners, and varying levels of tech interactivity. Students reflect on their experiences to build confidence and develop the language to talk about their skills.
For schools and districts, Skill Builders provide a ready-to-use way to integrate competency-based learning into existing systems. With professional development, implementation resources, and ongoing GenUS support, Skill Builders help districts personalize learning, engage students more deeply, and create space for innovation without overhauling curriculum.
